Fabric Expansion Joints for Ducting and Hot-Gas Systems

Flexible expansion joints for low-pressure ducting, exhaust systems and hot-gas applications.

Include with your requirement

A complete review of the duct arrangement and operating conditions is required before a configuration is proposed.

  • Duct dimensions and shape
  • Operating temperature
  • Process conditions
  • Pressure or vacuum
  • Movement requirements
  • Connection arrangement

Review the operating duty before choosing a configuration

Fabric expansion joints are flexible connections used mainly in ducting systems. Their construction is selected according to duct geometry, temperature, pressure or vacuum, process conditions, movement and the required attachment arrangement.

The operating duty includes the service conditions, required movement and connection arrangement. Send the available information first; missing details can then be identified before a product route is proposed.

01

Duct Arrangement

Circular or rectangular construction is considered according to the connected duct geometry.

02

Operating Conditions

Temperature, process conditions and pressure or vacuum requirements influence the selected construction.

03

Movement & Connections

The required movement and connection arrangement must be reviewed together with the available installation envelope.

When fabric expansion joints may be considered

  • 01Circular and rectangular arrangements for different duct geometries
  • 02Flexible construction for multi-directional duct movement
  • 03Connection and attachment details reviewed for the available installation envelope
  • 04Construction requirements coordinated with the stated operating conditions

A functional layer system, built around the duct duty

A fabric expansion joint is considered as a complete composite system rather than a single visible sheet. The number, order and material of its layers depend on the stated operating conditions and project requirements.

  1. 01

    Outer cover

The external layer protects the flexible system from the surrounding environment and handling conditions.

  2. 02

    Reinforcement

Reinforcing layers support dimensional stability and the required mechanical behaviour.

  3. 03

    Gas-seal membrane

The sealing layer is selected around temperature, gas composition, pressure or vacuum and chemical conditions.

  4. 04

    Insulation package

Insulating layers may be introduced where the sealing layer needs protection from the process temperature.

  5. 05

    Flow-side protection

A liner or bolster may be considered where flow, dust, abrasion or temperature conditions require additional protection.

Configurations available for requirement review

The final arrangement can only be identified after the service conditions, dimensions, movement and project requirements are reviewed.
